hi! i go to school for dog grooming but we accept other animals in to be bathed and this little one was abandoned by her owner. i've had rats in the past and no one wanted to take her so now she's mine! i named her chocka. :)

It has been brought to my attention that members are becoming frustrated with the size and number of thumbnails appearing on some posts. Some say it slows load time, others don't want their friends page eaten, and some just want posts to look a bit more tidy. To resolve the issues I'm going to start enforcing a simple thumbnail rule from this post on.


Thumbnail/Preview Image Rule
1. Thumbnail images are to be no larger than 300px wide and 200px tall (Do not "resize" an 800x600 image using html, make an actual thumbnail image please!)

2. A maximum of two thumbnail images are permitted above an lj cut.


Previous posts do not have to be updated with new images, unless you really want to. Also this rule does apply to all posts whether it's layouts, twitter backgrounds, profile codes, or resources. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and as always if you have any compliments or complaints send them to me via PM. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

My roommate & I are moving out of our cute 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment at Park & Boulevard on December 1st. It has a big kitchen, a balcony that overlooks the Museum District & 2 big living rooms. We've lived here for over 2 years now, & love it. But we decided we're going to rent a house. Our landlords are a very sweet elderly couple who are very good at maintaining the property.

Rent is $850 a month for a year's lease. After a year, our landlord said we could option for a month to month lease (which has been really really nice).

The apartment is within walking distance to Banditos, Caliente, Cafe Diem, 711, Patterson Express & other corner stores. It's also only a few blocks away from Carytown.

As a new rat owner of only 3 months, I am dealing with my first real rattie illness :( My poor babe, Noodle, has some nasty respiratory issues right now. She woke up yesterday afternoon and sounded like a guinea pig. I rushed her to the vet (one I hadn't seen before) who seemed pretty knowledgeable and sent me home with Doxy/Baytril. She mixed the two together in one container (is that normal?) with some raspberry flavoring which Noodle takes right out of the syringe.

This morning, however, I woke up to some really scary stuff. Noodle was not only chirping, but making clicking noises in addition to a bunch of other weird noises like gurgles. She hopped out of her hammock and seemed to be walking strangely, like staggering. I picked her up and snuggled her, and she seems to be moving better now. I also took her right into the bathroom and steamed it up, which I guess helped, but she is still puffed up in her hammock and making this very consistent whimper sound with every breath. It's breaking my heart. :( Her sister, Toast, has been unwavering in her attentiveness and is there for snuggles and grooming. I don't know if there's much else to do, other than wait for the antibiotics to work? She got her first dose last night at around 6pm.

I've also given her some baby food just to make sure she's getting some food and moisture. I plan on giving her some water with a syringe as well, just in case she is dehydrated.

I'm really worried about her, and I have to go to work soon. Is there anything else I can do? Should I be seeming improvement yet? It's upsetting me that it got worse... :(

I have a really small and probably quite simple question. I want my high school character (10th or 11th grade) to write a paper/essay on 'diversity of modern literature' (and choose an HIV+ gay author). What course would it be appropriate for? Literature? Journal Writing? Something else?

Setting: modern (about 5 years ago), USA, Kansas.

I googled 'usa high school literature', 'usa high school literature curriculum', and looked up 'Education in the United States' in Wiki.

How fast can a foreigner learn Russian? (months)

It was one of my best friends' 18th birthday last Sunday, and she refused to have a party or do anything to celebrate it, in some part thanks to the fact that it was in the middle of our university's exam week. Yuck. So I took the responsibility upon myself to bake a cake and take it to last night's post-exams party of the uni Pantomime Society*.

It was my first real attempt at decorating a cake. I cheated and used packet mixes for the cake (vanilla on the bottom, chocolate on top, with vanilla icing in the middle). I don't know any fancy icing techniques, so I just used what was in the box, adding more icing sugar to the vanilla to make it whiter, and less butter to the chocolate to make it darker (I also put extra vanilla essence and some All-Spice into the vanilla icing, but I don't think you could taste it). The writing is in melted white chocolate with pink food dye :P.

You know it's the holiday season when every other post here has something to do with Turkey Day or Christmas. Haha. Anyway, I'm hosting my first Christmas this year, and I'm really excited about it. My mother in law is so...well, she seems to think that if she eats anyone else's cooking but hers, she's going to spontaneously combust or something. I don't kno what her issue is, but I digress. I've got a tentative menu worked out in my head, and I'd like y'all's input.

It's my friend's birthday party tomorrow (21st) and I said I'd make a cake. It's also bill paying time so I can't fork out the money to buy everything from scratch. Plus I bought him 2 liters of rum.

After trying numerous times to bake a red velvet cake... I have finally done it! I listened to everyone's suggestion and bought a creme based food dye from Wilton. It was the U.S. red color and not Canadian (stupid pink tones!), the cake finally turned red! However, I don't think I let the butter or cream cheese get completely to room temperature as it was a little bumpy after mixing. Nonetheless it was wonderful!
